In the drive device, one end of a push rod (7) can be coupled to a driver (2) movable by means of a chain (1). For this purpose, the other end of the push rod (7) is fastened to a slide (19) provided displaceably on the sliding rail (6), this slide (19) being pushable between the driver (2) and the sliding rail (6). Provided on the driver (2) or on the slide (19) are devices which couple the slide (19) automatically to the driver (2) when the slide (19) is pushed under the driver (2). In the coupled state, the slide (19) follows a movement of the driver (2). In a drive device of this type, the push rod (7) can at any time be separated or uncoupled from the driver (2) in an extremely simple way, in order to make it possible to operate the door manually.
