Ceramic fiber felt is obtd. by (a) mixing alumina crystalline ceramic fibers (I) having a filament length of 10-30mm and aluminosilicate non-crystalline ceramic fibers(II) having a filament length of 5 to 30mm in wt. proportions of 4:6-7.5:2.5 and (b) binding the fibers with pref. an organic latex binder. Pref, (I)contain at least 60 wt.% AI2O3 and balance SiO2 and impurities and (II)contain 40-70 wt.% AI2O3 with the balance SiO2 and impurities. The felt has a linear percentage shrinkage of 2% at 1400deg., in very inexpensive compared to AI2O3 ceramic fiber and is suitable for use as furnace linings.
