The invention relates to a process for the preparation of polymers for extrusion and crosslinking for the production of tubes, continuous mouldings or the like, in particular of polyethylene. The thermoplastics, in powder or granular form, are, for the removal or levelling of the foreign substances or residues present therein, are subjected to thermal treatment and/or mixing treatment, where the temperature is kept slightly below the melting point of the components to be processed.
