A safety device on a height-adjustable table, in particular a drawing table, is specified, which prevents the table top from dropping down if the fixing brake (76, 78) of the height-adjustment device is released after the escape of compressed gas from a gas spring (28) which serves for the partial compensation of the weight of the table top (10) and of the table parts connected thereto. For this purpose, a power sensor (34 to 40), connected mechanically in series with the gas spring (28), is provided, by means of whose output signal a locking mechanism (62 to 66), which acts on the disengagement linkage (70, 72) of the fixing brake (76, 78), or a coupling can be actuated, which is switched into the actuating linkage of the fixing brake. <IMAGE>
