The stanchion is intended, in addition to the required dimensional stability and load-bearing capacity accompanied by a low dead-weight, to be designed in such a way that it can be assembled and fitted using simple means and with a low degree of work. In each case two stanchions (1) formed from T-profiles or double T-profiles are combined to form a pair of stanchions. In each case two pairs of rungs arranged opposite one another are connected to one another by means of a belt (2) of a tying-down device. On each stanchion (1), a longitudinal extending groove (10) into which closing elements (12) are inserted and attached is arranged on the outside facing the loading space. In the upper part, protruding over the load surface, of each pair of stanchions, the stanchions (1) are connected in a torsionally rigid fashion by means of a lattice. On the lower part of each stanchion (1), two horizontal bores (18 and 19) are arranged transversely in the centre vertically one on top of the other. By means of these bores, the stanchion is attached to the transport unit by means of bolts (9). <IMAGE>
