The invention relates to an item of furniture having a height-adjustable equipment plate with catch positions in at least two positions of different heights, a pin being provided in one of the furniture parts which are movable relative to one another during the lowering movement and a guide loop which is groove-shaped in cross section and has two branches for the pin end being provided in the other furniture part, the plate being supported at the bottom via the pin end in at least an upper catch position, and means being provided which inevitably introduce the pin end into at least one of the two loop branches. The invention consists in the fact that the guide loop (5) has the form of a trapezium with an upper (18) and a lower (19) cuspidal point, and in that only the force of gravity acts on the pin (6) in one (19) of the two cuspidal points (18, 19) and a spring force acts on the pin (6) in another cuspidal point (18). <IMAGE>
