A process for the preparation of thiuram disulfides substituted with aliphatic cycloaliphatic, araliphatic, or aromatic hydrocarbon radicals, said process comprising reacting a suitably substituted secondary amine having a pKa>/=8 with carbon disulfide in a solvent and in the presence of oxygen or oxygen-containing gas, a solvent, and a metalliferous catalyst, at a temperature of between 0 DEG C. and 200 DEG C.
