PURPOSE:To obtain an apparatus with increased sterilization capacity due to synergetic effects of a sterilization effect by silver ions and a mechanical breaking action, by providing an apparatus for generating cavitation-erosion on the surface of a silver carrying material dipped in water in a vessel. CONSTITUTION:For example, activated carbon 11 to be used as a filter medium is packed into a freely detachable cartridge 3 inserted into a cylindrical main body 2. A silver supporting material coated with silver on the surface is contained in the activated carbon 11. The city water is supplied from a short pipe 9 on one end of the main body 2, and discharged from a short pipe 10 on the other end. Ultrasonic waves are irradiated to the activated carbon 11 from an ultrasonic oscillator 14 attached to a head plate part on the water delivery side of the main body 2. In this way, cavitation-erosion is generated on the surface of the silver supporting material, and the synergetic effects of the sterilization effect by silver ions and the mechanical cell wall breaking action due to the local high pressure in the water generated by the cavitation-erosion can be obtained.
