PURPOSE:To obtain inexpensively the titled electrode material having superior heat resistance, tensile strength, a high machining rate and breaking resistance by incorporating a specified amount of a rare earth element into a hard steel wire rod as a base material. CONSTITUTION:This electrode material for wire-cut electric spark machining is obtd. by incorporating 0.05-3wt% rare earth element into a hard steel wire rod as a base material. The wire rod consists of, by weight, 0.59-0.66% C or 0.29- 0.36% C, 0.15-0.35% Si, 0.3-0.6% Mn, <=0.04% P, <=0.04% S and the balance Fe.
