LIQUID CRYSTAL COMPOSITION

摘要

PURPOSE:To provide a liq. crystal compsn. contg. a 2-(4-alkoxyphenyl)-5-alkylpyrimidine compd. and a cycanobiphenyl-contg. compd. and suitable for matrix driving. CONSTITUTION:The liq. crystal compsn. contains a 2-(4-alkoxyphenyl)-5-alkylpyrimidine compd. and a cyanobiphenyl-contg. compd. each in 3wt% or higher, shows a positive dielectric anisotropy and is in nematic phase. The compsn. should pref. comprise liq. crystals having a lowest possible elasticity constant [K33/K11] (K11 spray ; K33 : bend). 2-(4-Alkoxyphenyl)-5-alkylpyrimidine has a very low K33/K11 ratio of about 0.6 as compared with phenylcyclohexane and biphenyl liq. crystals which have a K33/K11 ratio of about 0.9-2.0. It has been elucidated by experiments that the cyano-buphenyl compd. is very effective as component for adjustment of threshold voltage to be combined with a pyrimidine liq. crystal.
