PURPOSE:To save power by stopping the dehumidifying operation of the air conditioner for a predetermined period of time when the humidity of indoor air is lowered down to a predetermined humidity during the dehumidifying operation, and carrying out again the dehumidifying operation at the time of stopping the operation when the temperature of indoor air is not raised up to a predetermined temperature at which the operation mode is switched from the dehumidifying operation to the cooling operation. CONSTITUTION:The indoor air humidity phi is gradually lowered during the dehumidifying operation. When the indoor air humidity phi is lowered up to a humidity phi0, the dehumidifying operation comes to a stop. After the stoppage of the dehumidifying operation, the dehumidifying operation is stopped for a predetermined time H0. During the stoppage of the dehumidifying operation, ventilation due to external air is carried out, and the temperature T and humidity phi are raised. After the lapse of a predetermined time H0, when the indoor air temperature T does not reach a temperature TH, the dehumidifying operation is started again.
