PURPOSE:To prepare a sintered hard alloy excellent in strength and anti-wear property, by sintering a green compact consisting of WC, TiC, TiN and a ferrous metal in a specific ratio under vacuum and treating the sintered body under a specific high temp. and high pressure condition in a specific nitrogen medium. CONSTITUTION:A green compact consisting of, on a wt. basis, 5-95% WC, 2- 80% TiC, 2-80% TiN and 0.1-5.0% of ferrous metal such as Co, Ni or Fe is sintered under vacuum or in a non-oxidative atmosphere. Subsequently, the sintered hard body is treated under such a high temp. and high pressure condition that nitrogen partial pressure is 500kg/cm<2> or more, a temp. is 1,100-1,800 deg.C and pressure is about 10-300Torr. Furthermore, up to about 80% of TiC can be substituted with ZrC, HfC or VC and up to about 80% of TiN can be substituted with ZrN, HfN or VN.
