PURPOSE:To obtain a combustion apparatus, a rise time thereof is short and in which a bad odor and CO are hardly generated, by forming small holes, diameters thereof are larger than those of small holes in sections except both end sections of a porous plate in the same height as both end sections of the porous plate, near a wick at both end sections of the porous plate. CONSTITUTION:A combustion chamber is formed by a rectilinear wick 1 and a pair of porous plates mounted before and behind while holding the wick 1, and the diameters 2c of small holes at both end sections are made larger than those 2b of small holes at a central section. Accordingly, since the flame stabilizing capability of the small holes at both end sections is higher than that of the small holes at the central section, flames are stabilized earlier than the central section, and the diameters of the holes are increased. Consequently, the amount of heat of flame stabilizing is augmented, the temperature rise of the wick 1 in the vicinity of both end sections is accelerated, and the rise time of the amount of evaporation is shortened. That is, since the magnitude of flame stabilizing generated in the small holes is increased and the amount of heat is augmented when the diameters of the small holes are large, temperatures in the vicinity of flame stabilizing are elevated, a combustion rate is accelerated, and contact areas (reaction areas) among air fed from the small holes and evaporated gas in the combustion chamber are widened, thus obtaining stable flame stabilizing.
