PURPOSE:A function promoting agent having activating action on blood, comprising saikosaponin a or saikosaponin d as a main component. CONSTITUTION:A function promoting agent having activating action on blood or an agent to reduce a bleeding amount, containing a compound shown by the formula I or formula II as a main component. An effective dose, in an urgent blood activation in bleeding of large amount, is 20-30mg/time by intravenous injection, 200-300mg by oral administration, properly upto three times corresponding to symptoms. In application of the function promoting agent having activating action on blood, when bleeding of large amount caused by major operations, accidents, etc., function of blood is urgently raised, and dangerous conditions are extricated. Fatigue is rapidly recovered when people become exhausted. Prevention of fatigue in labor, sport, etc. Slightly curable diseases such as rheumatism, neuralgia, etc. are improved by its long-term administration. It is also useful for keeping health, etc. The compounds shown by the formula I and formula II can be obtained from the root of Bupleurum falcatum L.
