PURPOSE:To maintain a stable tape abutting state for a long period by forming a magnetic layer at the part of the magnetic recording medium abutting surface of a magnetic material core corresponding track width to thickness nearly as large as gap depth, and further providing a glass layer on the magnetic medium abutting surface except at the track width part to thickness nearly as large as the gap depth. CONSTITUTION:The 1st and the 2nd magnetic material cores 20 and 21 are provided with a metallic magnetic layer 22 of, for example, ''Sendust'' which has high magnetic permeability and high magnetic flux density on their tape abutting slide surfaces 201 and 211 corresponding to the track width Tw to thickness nearly as large as the gap depth (d), and also provided with a glass layer 23 except at the track Tw to thickness nearly as large as the gap depth (d). Then, a gap 24 is formed almost in the center parts of those metallic magnetic layer 22 and glass layer 23. Consequently, the high frequency loss of the metallic magnetic layer 22 is prevented effectively, sufficient recording and excellent reproduction are carried out even for a tape with high coercive force, and the tape is brought into invariably stable slide contact. |
