PURPOSE:To obtain an optical disc controller where it is sufficient if the capacity of a buffer corresponds to the quantity of data written in one sector, by discriminating whether a sector is good or not when the write to this sector is terminated and writing data in and alternative sector if said sector is bad. CONSTITUTION:In accordance with the indication form a channel device 10, an optical disc controller 20 inputs one-sector components of write data from the channel device 10 to a buffer part 22 and stores it in the part 22. A control part 21 sends this data to an optical disc 30 through a data control part 23 and sends it to a data verifying part 24 also. The verifying part 24 discriminates whether the sector is good or not by comparison of a check code; and if the sector is defective, the data control part 23 writes the address of the defective sector and write data stored in the buffer in an alternative sector and writes a defective sector flag.
