PURPOSE:To stabilize a light source by applying control of power supply to at least a part of plural light sources for original lighting. CONSTITUTION:When an original is set and a read switch is turned on, one original 10 is fed toward a platen 31. The mode is set to the test mode only for a prescribed short time at the same time. In the test mode, a timing control circuit 44 outputs lighting control signals 46R, 46G, 46B to control the lighting of lighting high-frequency power supplies 17R, 17G, 17B. When the test mode is finished and the reading of original is started, a detection circuit 41 reads three kinds of signals written on the memory at the test mode, supplies them to an operation circuit 42 to control the lighting time per one scanning thereby compensating a picture signal 15.
