<p>Prodn. of cables from high modulus yarns comprises the formation of a core form yarns of aromatic polyamide held together by an external sheath of nylon 6 or nylon 66. The core yarns are compressed radially and sheathed, and heat-treated to shrink the sheathing. The sheath, however, is not stuck to the core yarns, but allows them to slide over each other during flexion. The sheath compresses and deforms the core yarns so that no empty spaces exist between the core yarns. A spiral wrapping of a heat-shrinkable polyester film may be introduced between the core and the sheathing. The known sensitivity of high modulus aromatic polyamides to abrasion is overcome by the wrapping and sheathing of the invention, without loss of suppleness.</p> |
