PURPOSE:To enable a lateral character pattern to be converted directly to a vertical character pattern, by a system wherein a design region of a lateral character pattern is discriminated, and a reference point for starting conversion is set. CONSTITUTION:The control system comprises a storage means 10 having a control storage area for storing lateral character patterns and attribute data thereof and a vertical character pattern developing area, a means 1 for writing into the control storage area the lateral character pattern and the attribute data supplied from a lateral character pattern master file 7, a means 2 for discriminating whether the design region for laying out one of the character patterns occupies the entire part (c) or occupies only a 1/4 area, based on the attribute data read from the control storage area (a), a means 3 for retrieving the reference point in the control storage area (a) when the one character pattern is discriminated by the discriminating means 2 to occupy the 1/4 area, a means 4 for setting the reference point in the area (b), and means 5 for forming a vertical character pattern in the area (b) on the basis of the reference point set by the setting means 4. |
