PURPOSE:To attain stable and sure picture recording efficiently by applying a recording current to a recording system circuit when a prescribed condition is satisfied. CONSTITUTION:A picture recording device 1 consists of an image pickup system device 350 and a recording/reproducing system device 360. A total controller 19 is connected to a recording controller 20 to control the recording device together with the controller 20 in response to the mode of the recording device 1. In the remote mode where a video signal picked up by a telecine device 8 is recorded on a magnetic disc 34, the total controller 19 controls the operation of the entire device in cooperation with the recording controller 20, and in the local mode where the recording/reproducing device 360 is operated singly for the maintenance of the recording/reproducing system device 360 or a special recording operation to the magnetic disc 34 different from a conventional recording operation, the total controller 19 is in the standby state to supervise the operation of the recording controller 20.
