PURPOSE:To get a high efficiency of combustion and at the same time to facili tate an adjustment of quantity of heat by a method wherein a total area at a flame port is varied out only by varying the number of flame ports or an area of each of the flame ports, but also by varying an amount of gas to be supplied. CONSTITUTION:A deep bevel gear type groove is formed at a lower circumferential edge of a circular burner head 1 and the groove is covered with a flame port cover 2. This flame port cover 2 is moved up and down so as to vary an area of the bevel gear type groove acting as the flame port and facing to the outside. Further, the main body 3 of the burner is also moved up and down and the grid 4 is also similarly moved up and down. When a combustion under a large quantity of heat is required, an amount of gas to be supplied is increased and at the same time the flame port cover 2 is moved downwardly to increase the area of the flame port and to prevent the flame from being excessively high. In turn, when a cmbustion with a small quantity of heat is required, the amount of gas to be supplied is decreased and at the same time the flame port cover 2 is moved upwardl to decrease the area of the flame port thereby the excessive decreased flame is prevented.
