PURPOSE:The titled fiber that is obtained from an acrylonitrile polymer with a reduced viscosity, thus being suitable not only for clothing purposes but also for tire cords and carbon fiber precursor, because it has a specific filament fineness and tensile strength. CONSTITUTION:The objective fiber is obtained by extruding an acrylonitrile polymer with a reduced viscosity of 2.0 or higher, preferably 2.5-5.0 and has 0.3-10 denier filament fineness and higher than 10g/d tensile strength. The polymer is produced by polymerization of a starting composition containing 10-70wt% of a polymerizable monomer mixture mainly consisting of acrylonitrile, 15-60wt% of a usual organic solvent and 15-60wt% of water with a radical initiator.
