PURPOSE:To enable high quality printing without passing through developing and fixing processes, by irradiating the thermal transfer carbon film contacted with the printing paper on a platen with laser beam and transferring a character or a figure to the printing paper by the heat of said laser beam. CONSTITUTION:Laser beam 2 emitted from a laser oscillator 1 enters a lens cylinder 4 through the character of a dial 3. The dial 3 has characters arranged in a matrix form and selectively moves to X- and Y-directions orthogonal to each other by a selective drive apparatus not shown in a drawing to select an arbitrary character. Laser beam 2 formsa focus on the surface of the thermal transfer carbon film contacted with the printing paper 6 on a platen 5 and the carbon film is melted by the heat of laser beam to transfer the selected character to the printing paper 6. Printing can be also performed without using the dial 3 by irradiating the thermal transfer carbon film with laser beam through the character stored in a computer according to a dot or vector system.
