PURPOSE:To obtain a reproduced picture represented by a density and contrast with ease of diagnosis by increasing the reproducing density and the contrast in a specific signal region of an electric signal level obtained by photoelectric- converting a radiant ray picture. CONSTITUTION:In a signal region from a minimum value Smin to a maximum value Smax of an electric signal level as the result of photoelectric conversion of a radiant ray picture, the optical density D of a reproduced picture is in creased shown in broken lines (a) or solid lines (b) around a signal level S0 of Smin<S0<Smax so as to increase the contrast between the Smin and the S0 and the contrast between the S0 and the Smax. The Smin and Smax are reproduced respectively by the optical density in the range of capry density and capry density +0.2 and in the range of 1.5-2.5. The value S0 is selected to satisfy Equation, where Emin, Emax, E0 are radiant ray dose corresponding to the Smin, Smax and S0 respectively.
