PURPOSE:To control freely the color reproducibility and picture density in excellent response to a command based on the command such as the automatic control, operation by the operator or external device by using an electric signal so as to modulate the dot diameter or segmented size of a matrix. CONSTITUTION:The rays of light from an original multi-color image 31 receiving the light of a lighting light source 33 reaches a color CCD 36 via three mirrors 34 and a lens 35. The color CCD 36 converts the strength of light into an electric signal while scanning the multi-color image of the original, the electric signal is processed by a picture processing section 37, a recording data is obtained and stored in a picture memory 38 as required. A semiconductor laser optical system of a recording section P is controlled according to the recorded data in this way. The picture processing section 37 changes or selects a modulation signal depending on the command from an external command section 39 to as to obtain an optimum recording data for a multi-color image with high quality.
