PURPOSE:To simplify the operation of an input device together with miniaturization of this input device by providing a group including nine specific input elements, a group including five input elements and a switch control means. CONSTITUTION:This input system comprises an input device for KANA (Japanese syllabary) characters and numeric characters, input groups 10 and 20, an input control means 18 for numeric characters, an input control means 24 for characters and a switch control means 25. The group 10 contains nine input elements 1-9 arrayed in three rows and three columns. While the group 20 contains five input elements 11-15. The input information given from those input elements are converted into the numeric character information 17 contains numeric characters 0-9 by input elements 1-9 and the element 11 of groups 10 and 20 respectively and delivered. At the same time, 25 vowel characters and 19 consonant characters of the Japanese syllabary are delivered by both groups 10 and 20. The changeover between these characters and numeric characters is performed by the means 25.
