PURPOSE:To prevent corrosion of a water contact part without unnecessary consumption of a power amount of a power system and water in an upper and a lower pond, by a method wherein, when a hydraulic machine is brought into a stop after phase regulating operation, only when a dissolved oxygen amount in a runner chamber exceeds a specified value, water is replaced. CONSTITUTION:A detector 19, detecting a dissolved oxygen amount, is situated to an upper cover 16 of a main machine through an automatic valve 20. With the automatic valve 20 opened when the main machine is stopped, the detector 19 detects a dissolved oxygen amount in water staying around a runner chamber 18. As a result, only when an amount detected by the detector 19 exceeds a specified value, the main machine is rotated in a generating direction to replace water in the runner chamber 18 with fresh water.
