PURPOSE:To prepare ferrite by respectively recovering ferrous hydroxide and ferric hydroxide contg. no silica which is the inhibitor of the ferrite reaction from silica-contg. mine water, mixing both hydroxides and ageing the mixture. CONSTITUTION:An alkaline agent is added to mine water contg. ferrous ions coexistent with silica, a part of the ferrous ions are coprecipitated with silica as ferrous hydroxide, the coprecipitate is separated and dissolved in an acidic soln. or strongly acidic mine water and then the ferrous ions are oxidized to ferric ions. An alkaline agent is again added to the soln. to regulate the pH to <=4.0, silica is separated, the ferric ions are recovered as the precipitate of ferric hydroxide, the ferric hydroxide and the ferrous hydroxide recovered by adding an alkaline agent to the mine water previously freed of silica and contg. remaining ferrous ions are mixed in 1/1-2/1 ratio, an alkaline agent is added to the mixture to make the mixture alkaline and the mixture is aged to form ferrite.
