PURPOSE:To display KANA (Japanese syllabary) to be converted, on the same line by displaying the KANA corresponding to the next line, on a cursor position, in case of converting KANA information to a KANJI (Chinese character) by extending over two lines. CONSTITUTION:First of all, when a cursor is moved to the first character of a conversion object of a line of the upper stage extending over two lines, the character concerned is read out by a KANA storing circuit 15. Subsequently, when the cursor position is moved, and a line-extension is detected, the line- extension is detected by a deciding circuit 17 and the head character of the next line is read out to the KANA storing circuit 15, and also the line-extended KANA is displayed on a position shown by the cursor. Thereafter, in the same way, by moving the cursor to the right, the KANA to be converted is read out successively to the KANA storing circuit 15 from a document memory, and the line-extended KANA is displayed on a display device 22.
