摘要 PURPOSE:To enable characters or images to be clearly printed on a variety of media ranging from a thin medium to a thick medium such as a postal card, by varying an ink ejection starting point according to the thickness of a recording medium used, in an ink jet printer. CONSTITUTION:A recording medium 30 is fed forward in the direction of an arrow A, and when it is passed between a platen 1 and a pinch roller 34, a leaf spring 35 is bent, whereby the size of a strain gauge is varied, resulting in a change in its resistance R1. An output from a bridge circuit 40 arising from the change in the resistance R1 of the strain gauge 36 is inputted to an amplifier 41, and an output from the amplifier 41 is inputted to a CPU through an A/D converter 43. Each of points D, E, F is a desired impact point for an ink droplet, and the distance DP between a point D and the point E is equal to the interval P of encode slits 15. With a timing according to an output from the A/D converter 43 in a thickness-detecting circuit, an ink-ejecting command is sent from the CPU to a printer head driving circuit. Accordingly, an error in the impact point of the ink droplet due to reciprocal motions of a carriage can be reduced, regardless of the thickness of the recording medium.
