PURPOSE:To obtain a paste for a pigment printing agent which can give a deep-colored clear print without adding a hydrophobic organic solvent such as mineral turpentine and a pigment fixing agent, by using an alkali-thickened copolymer emulsion formed from a combination of specified monomers at a specified ratio. CONSTITUTION:A copolymer emulsion obtained by emulsion-polymerizing a mixture of 5-40wt% carboxyl group-containing polymerizable monomer (A), 1-10wt% crosslinkable functional group-containing polymerizable monomer (B), 6-40wt% polyfunctional monomer (C) having at least two ethylenically unsaturated groups in the molecule and 88-10wt% other monomers (D) copolymerizable therewith. Acrylic acid is preferable as component A, methylol(meth)acrylamide or an alkoxymethyl(meth)-acrylamide as component B and an ester of a polyalcohol or a saccharide with an ethylenically unsaturated acid as component C. Examples of component D include methyl (meth)acrylate, styrene, vinyl acetate, vinyltoluene and acrylonitrile.
