PURPOSE:To permit a ship to be propelled to a desired direction, by providing an underwater sail and a guide line for guiding the ship to the desired direction. CONSTITUTION:Engaging members 6, 7 which serve as a ship restricting line, have one end fixed to a front end and a rear end of a ship 1 and other end engaged with a guide line through a ring member 6a and a roller 7a so that it is movable along the guide line 5 stretched in the desired advancing direction of the ship. The shaft 3a of an underwater sail 3 is rotated in accordance with the direction of water stream and an angle of elevation against the water stream is adjusted most properly so that propelling force is produced effectively. The ship can be advanced by the propelling force in a desired advancing direction while the ship 1 is being guided along the guide line 5 through the engaging members 6, 7.
