PURPOSE:To easily decide the quality of a joint welding by correctly detecting the skid between the material to be welded and an electrode, by fitting the potentiometer which is composed of needle and stator to a welding head. CONSTITUTION:The skid detecting device 19 composed of a potentiometer 13 is fitted to a stationary welding head 2a and mobile welding head 2b. The potentiometer 13 is composed of a stator 14 and needle 15, the stator 14 is fixed to the frame 1b of a slide block 1 and the needle 15 is fitted to a slider 5 and press-fitted to the material 12a, 12b to be welded via a connection rod 7. The welding is performed by moving the mobile head 2b by abutting the material 12a, 12b to be welded to electrodes 17, 18 in this composition, but the skid is accurately detected with the fluctuation of the voltage of the potenti ometer output end in case of there being any skidding between the welding material and electrode, so the quality of welding can be easily decided.
