PURPOSE:To attain accurate signal equalization without requiring the recognition of characteristic fluctuation state of a transmission line in advance by controlling an amplitude versus frequency characteristic of a variable filter based on error information. CONSTITUTION:Error information err includes at least error information between the effective power of a reference signal having a reference power spectrum g(omega) and the effective power of an equalizing signal G'(t) and a noticeable power error at a frequency, and the amplitude versus frequency characteristic of the variable filter 31 is controlled in response to the error information err. That is, the frequency characteristic of the variable filter 31 is adjusted so that the amplitude error at each noticeable frequency point is equal and the fixed gain of the filter is controlled so that the amplitude error is made zero further, and a power spectrum g'(omega) of an equalizing signal and a reference power spectrum g(omega) are controlled to be made coincident graphically from the dissident state, the distortion caused due to the presence of a transmission line 2 is eliminated and signals are equalized correctly and the transmission signals are estimated by an information discrimination means.
