PURPOSE:To measure circumferential surface friction force between a test cylinder and surrounding subsoil accurately with a limited cost in a short time, by pushing the test cylinder into a drilling hole previously formed and to measure torque required for the rotation by rotating it. CONSTITUTION:A hole 2 is drilled into subsoil G to a specified depth utilizing a caging pipe 1. A hole 3 which is smaller in diameter than the hole 2 as well as smaller than circumferential surface friction tester 5 is drilled into the bottom of the hole 2. A measuring device 5 for circumferential surface friction provided at a tip of a drilling rod 4 is forced into the hole 3. With this measuring device 5 exposed to the circumferential surface of the body, a test cylinder 6 provided rotatably is turned by operating a handle 8 of torque measuring device carrying unit 7 through a drilling rod 4 to measure torque required for the rotation. The test cylinder 6 is supported rotatively with respect to the body 9 and rotate the drilling rod 4 in the subsoil at a specified depth.
