PURPOSE:To obtain the molding sand having low thermal expansion rate inexpensively by effectively utilizing a nickel slag, by making a molding sand by performing the grinding treatment which improves a grain shape coefficient on the sand like slag which is generated in case of the smelting and ore dressing of a garnierite. CONSTITUTION:The nickel slag A of the raw material is dehydrated by dehydrator C after removing a lump body by screening through a trommel B and a grinding treatment is performed by a grinding machine D. The slag which completed the grinding is dried by a drier F after dehydrating by dehydrator E and becomes the molding sand H of a product by being screened in the prescribed grain size with a sieve G. In such a way, a completely new molding sand H is obtd. by effectively utilizing the nickel slag which has been disposed as an industrial waste in the past.
