PURPOSE:To prevent an image blur without damaging an original by detachably installing a transparent plate between the surface of an original and a moving body, which relatively moves on the original surface and reads an image, and a displacement correction means correcting the focus distance of a reading optical system. CONSTITUTION:The reading optical system 40 is provided which can be freely displaced in the direction where it comes near and off from the original 11. The displacement correction means 52 engaged with the supporting arm 51 of said system 40 displaces the reading optical system 40, and is comprised of an oblong elliptical cam 53 which directly engaged with the supporting arm 51 and changes its height at every 90 deg., a knob 53 which aligns with the cam 53 and has four grooves that are spaced by 90 deg. and controlled outside, and a lock pin 57 which is pushed toward the groove 54 of the knob 55 by a spring 56 so as to attach and detach. If the transparent plate 50 is placed on the original 11, the reading optical system 40 is dropped to the side of the original 11 by the thickness DELTAt of the transparent plate 50, whereby the system can be focused with respect to the original 11.
