PURPOSE:To secure a constant distance between the surface of form and a lens by causing a scanner movable in a direction perpendicular to the surface where an object to be read on a table is placed, abutting the end surface of the scanner on the surface of the form and positioning the scanner with the position of the surface of the form as a reference. CONSTITUTION:If a brace 25 is away from a positioning plate 12, the scanner 4 drops due to its dead load against a spring 13, and a lower end 8 abuts on a surface 2. When a knob 21 is rotated in the direction reverse to an arrow, a lever 11 fixes the positioning plate 12 due to the rotation of the knob 21. If the knob 21 is further rotated, a cam roller 14 rotates, and a sliding plate 11 is retained a fixed distance (l) which is decided by the large diameter of the cam roller 14 with the upper end of the positioning plate 12 as a reference. If the distance between the lens 4 and the lower end 8 is equal to the difference between the distances (a) and (l), the distance between the surface 2 and the lens 5 can be the same as the distance (a) invariably.
