NEW MATERIAL:A syn-isomer of the compound of formula I (R<1> is lower alkyl; R<2> is carboxyl ester-forming group; 4-methylthiazolyl group has cis configuration to the substituted vinyl as the 3-side chain in the cephem nucleus). EXAMPLE:7-[2-Ethoxyimino-2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)acetamide]-3-[2-(4-met hylthia zol-5-yl)vinyl]-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid pivaloyloxymethyl ester. USE:Oral antibacterial. It has low toxicity. PREPARATION:The reaction of a compound of formula II [M is a cation forming a salt with the carboxyl group) with another compound of R<2>-X (X is group to eliminate) gives the objective compound of formula I.
