PURPOSE:To release the clamping of a drive dog and mount the dog to a workpiece by retaining said dog in an unclamped condition in a plurality of pairs of recesses formed with fixed and movable blocks arranged on the same plane, and retreating the movable block after the insertion of a workpiece. CONSTITUTION:A drive dog 50 is held in an unclamped condition on the actuation of a member 25 in a plurality of recesses formed with a fixed block 30 secured on a face 10a and a movable block 35 provided via a support bar 36, a spring 38 and a guide rod 37 on a projection 21 movable in an 'X' direction along one side 10a of a support bed 10 via a cylinder fitted below said bed 10. When a workpiece is inserted in the suitable drive dog 50 and the projection 21 is made to retreat, the member 25 comes off the lever 53 of the drive dog 50, the workpiece is clamped, the movable block 35 retreats and the drive dog 50 is released. Therefore, the drive dog 50 can be preliminarily retained whenever necessary and can be mounted to suit the workpiece.
