PURPOSE:To improve durability and sealing performance, by forming a taper of less than 10' in a range of the sealed part of a shaft being slidden. CONSTITUTION:Packing 3, having a lip 2 binding a PTEF material, is fitted in a sealing device body 1. This packing 3 is attached to a rod 4, while a tip part 5 of the lip 2 comes into contact with the rod 4 and slidden, thereby preventing oil 7 in an oil chamber 6 from escaping to the atmospheric side 8 at the right. In this rod 4, there is provided with a minute taper theta of less than 10' in the slide range S. At a sweeping stroke of the packing 3 to the rod 4, a rod diameter is gradually increased by the taper theta, and the packing 3 is set up so as to increase the clamping force. The lip 2 of the packing 3 is forcedly pressed to the rod 4 by dint of a spring 10.
