PURPOSE:To read an original with a high resolution by providing lens sheets, which have focusing functions corresponding to picture elements in the main scanning direction, between the surface of the original and a photoelectric transducer array. CONSTITUTION:Since lens sheets 16 and 17 having focusing functions corresponding to picture elements at least in the main scanning direction are arranged between the surface of an original l and a photoelectric transducer array 8, the original is well read though the interval between the surface of the original 1 and that of the photoelectric transducer array 8 is made longer than the pitch of photoelectric transducers. An interference filter 18 where the transmission wavelength band is changed in accordance with the angle of incidence is interposed between the surface of the original 1 and the photoelectric transducer array 8, and the spectral transmittance characteristic of the interference filter and the spectral distribution characteristic of a light source 2 which illuminates the surface of the original 1 are properly selected to reflect the light, which has a wide angle of incidence, of the reflected light from the surface of the original 1 and this reflected light is prevented from being made incident on the photoelectric transducer array. Thus, the crosstalk is suppressed to read the original with a high resolution.
