PURPOSE:To reproduce a slow motion at a speed of 1/n times by reading a reproduced signal written in a memory only for a (n-1) field at the time of a slow motion reproduction. CONSTITUTION:When the reproduction of the slow motion at the speed of 1/2 times is operated, a switch 7 is switched to (a), (b) terminals according to a necessity according to a control signal from a control circuit 6 and a switch 14 is connected and held to a (k) terminal. When a magnetic tape 5 wound on a cylinder 3 is traveled at the speed of 1/2 times, rotary magnetic heads 1, 2 and an auxiliary rotary magnetic head 4 helically scan the magnetic tape 5, write a video signal outputted from an A/D converter 10 in a memory 11 during the period of one field interval and read only for the (n-1) field period.
