PURPOSE:To efficiently produce fluoromethylphenylalanine, by bringing a specific fluoromethyl group-containing compound into contact with a microorganism having transaminase activity or the above-mentioned enzyme. CONSTITUTION:A fluorine-containing compound expressed by formula I (R is CFH2, CF2H, or CF3; n is an integer of 1-2), preferably o-, m- or p- trifluoromethylphenylpyruvic acid is brought into contact with a microorganism contained in a culture medium of a microorganism having transaminase and oxalacetate decarboxylase in the same cell, preferably Alcaligenes sp. IAM1015 or cultivated therein or enzyme, e.g. transaminase, etc., separated from the afore-mentioned microorganism and converted into L-trifluoro methylphenylalanine in compounds expressed by formula II. An amino acid, e.g. aspartic acid, glutamic acid, alanine, etc., is preferably present as an amino group donor in the reaction solutions.
