PURPOSE:To easily and efficiently record information by displaying the recording available part of a recording available disk. CONSTITUTION:If the recording available disk 1 is installed, an optical head 12 reads catalogue (TOC) information recorded in the read in area of the disk 1, and it is stored in a TOC buffer memory 19. A microcomputer 17 operates a difference between the start address data of a second music and termination address data of a first music based on TOC information stored in the memory 19 and decides whether the difference is bigger than a prescribed address difference or not. If prescribed address difference exists as the result of the decision, the space is judged to be a first recording available part, and the address difference (recording available time) is stored in a space buffer memory 30. The decision of the address difference is sequentially executed with respect to the rest of all the music intervals of the rest, and a part with prescribed recording available time is detected, whereby respective recording available time are stored in the memory 30.
