PURPOSE:To make the alignability of discharged originals so better as well as to reduce a span of loss time, by driving a conveying means of a conveyor belt or the like and a paper discharging means of a paper discharge roller or the like the same driver, in the case of an automatic original feeder for a copying machine or the like. CONSTITUTION:An automatic original feeder 5 is mounted on a platen 3 of a copying machine 1. This feeder is provided with a separate feeding part 9 separating originals on an original tray 7 piece by piece and feeding it out, a conveying part 11 conveying the fed original onto the platen 3, a discharging pat 13 discharging the copied original as turning it upside down, a paper discharge tray 15 and a control unit, through which it is made so as to automatically feed or discharge the original in design. And, when it operates a motor 91 and discharges the original to the paper discharge tray 15, it sets this original to a reference position, while it decelerates the motor 91, whereby it is designed so as to perform discharge operation of the original that finished the copying and stopping operation of the next original simultaneously at low speed.
