PURPOSE:To reproduce information by a high S/N, by applying a prescribed external magnetic field to a magneto-optical recording medium so that the diameter of a magnetic bubble is not varied at the time of reproducing the information. CONSTITUTION:To the magnetic walls of magnetic bubbles 21a, 22b, force by the gradient of magnetic wall energy, force by the gradient of magnetostatic energy, and force by an external magnetic field are applied. The force by the gradient of the magnetic wall energy operates so as to reduce the diameter of the bubbles 21a, 22a, and the force by the gradient of the magnetostatic energy operates so as to increase the diameter of the bubble. Accordingly, by controlling the direction and magnitude of the external magnetic field, when the sum total of three forces is set to zero, the diameter of the bubble is not varied, and the bubble exists stably.
