PURPOSE:To obtain the title colorless transparent copolymer excellent in mechanical strengths, by bulk-polymerizing a mixture of three specified monomers such as tribromophenyl methacrylate, chlorostyrene and nonaethylene glycol dimethacrylate. CONSTITUTION:100pts.wt. monomer mixture containing 10-55mol% monomer (A) of formula I [wherein R<1> is H or CH3, R<2> is group of formula II or III (wherein m is 0-2) and k is 1-5], e.g., tribromophenyl (meth)acrylate, and 35-88mol.% monomer (B) of formula IV (wherein n is 1-5), e.g., 4- chlorostyrene, and 2-25mol.% monomer (C) of formula V (wherein R<3-4> are each R<1> and p is 4-23), e.g., nonaethylene glycol di(meth)acrylate, as the principal monomers is bulk-polymerized at 50-150 deg.C in the presence of 0.05-5pts.wt. radical polymerization initiator to obtain the title copolymer containing specified amounts of repeating units of formulas VI-VIII and having a refractive index as high as about 1.55.
