PURPOSE:To obviate a degradation in a recording signal by damage of a magnetic layer and clogging of a head and to improve the reliability of a recording medium by subjecting a raw film to a dust removing treatment by oscillation using ultrasonic waves after cutting the raw film at the time of producing the recording medium having a prescribed shape by cutting the raw film. CONSTITUTION:A ferromagnetic metal of an evaporation source 12 is deposited by evaporation on a polyethylene terephthalate film by a vacuum vessel 2 subjected to evacuation by a vacuum evacuation system 1 to prepare the raw film 17 of the recording medium of the prescribed width having a ferromagnetic metallic layer. This raw film 17 of the magnetic recording medium is fed toward a slit 10 by a raw film roll 16 of a cutter. The film 17 is cut to the prescribed width by the slit 10 and the cut films 17 are respectively taken up by magnetic tape taking-up rolls 20-22. After the raw film is cut by the slit 19, the film is subjected to the dust removing treatment by a duct 26 coupled to a dust collecting and discharging device 25 and an ultrasonic wave generator 18. The degradation in the recording signal and the clogging of the magnetic head are obviated and the reliability of the recording medium is improved.
