PURPOSE:To effectively utilize residual energy of an electron group without controlling a magnetic field and to obtain ozone in high yield by forming a notch on a grid electrode intersecting a passing space of the electron group. CONSTITUTION:A plate ozone generator is constructed by providing a grid electrode 3 having a notched part or a slit in a space intersecting a passage 6 of an electron group forming a space expanded with a specified angle including lines of force toward the surface of an anode 4 from protruded parts 5 on a dielectric body 1, to between the dielectric body (insulating body) 1 provided with a cathode 2 and protruded parts 5 functioning as sites generating the electron group in the stage of silent discharge and the anode 4. Silent discharge is caused by impressing an electric voltage in such a manner that a large potential difference is generated between the cathode 2 and the grid electrode 3 and a minute potential difference is generated between the grid electrode 3 and the anode 4 to generate an electron group at the protruded parts 5 of the dielectric body 1 on the cathode 2. Major part of the generated electron group is flied toward the anode surface 4 through the notched part, etc. without being captured by the grid electrode 3 causing collision with O2 molecules to ozonize the O2 molecules. Thus, the yield of ozone is increased.
